The crop response dataset (N=4,032 observations) is extracted, transformed, and uploaded into a harmonized template, consisting of 76 variables. From 2001 to 2006, intensive soil test-based fertilizer calibration trials (mainly phosphorus calibration trials) took place. These trials were coordinated by the federal National Soil Testing Centre (NSTC) (then NSRC) and implemented by 15 regional soil laboratories. This nationwide fertilizer calibration mission had collected a huge soil and agronomic dataset for various major crops across diverse agroecosystems. However, this dataset was not interpreted as per the set methodology mainly because of limitations in the experimental protocol used after all the field and lab data were collected (Farina, 2011). This nationally collected huge soil and agronomy dataset was abandoned, left in the hands of individuals and unreachable due to staff turnover and restructuring of the soil laboratories. However, if the data did not work for soil test-based P-fertilizer calibration at that time, the soil and crop response data probably are fit for other purposes to address systemic production and productivity problems across locations in Ethiopia. Hence, these voluminous nationwide datasets have been tracked down and brought on board, by the Coalition of the Willing (CoW), to the national database for further analysis and interpretation by various data users. CASCAPE was jointly executed by Ethiopian researchers from Jimma University, Bahir Dar University, Hawassa University, Mekelle University, Addis Ababa University and Dutch researchers from Wageningen University and Research Centre. Recent efforts by the Federal and Regional research centres in collaboration with the MoA, RBoA\u2019s and ATA have shown that there was a significant potassium deficiency in significant agricultural lands of the country. Potassium deficiency was observed through soil fertility assessment surveys and crop response studies.Hence, the promotion of potassium fertilizer use in the agricultural system would be of great importance to increase the balanced fertilizer use system in the country. In the year 2016/ 2017, a project known as \u201cLarge Scale Popularization of Potassium Fertilizer Use in Ethiopia\u201d was implemented from October 2015 to March 2017 by Sasakawa Africa Association/Sasakawa Global 2000 in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, ATA, AGRA and other stakeholders. To achieve the set goals and objectives of the project, in the 2016/2017 cropping season, 18,203 KCL demonstrations were implemented in the four project regions, Amhara, Oromia, SNNPRs and Tigray on five crops, Teff, wheat, Maize, Barley and Sesame. Given the potential role of vegetation in controlling water pollution by trapping clay particles in the landscape, changes are also made to the way the model deals with sediment deposition and to allow the model to incorporate particle-size selectivity in the processes of erosion, transport and deposition. Vegetation effects are described in relation to percentage canopy cover, percentage ground cover, plant height, effective hydrological depth, density of plant stems and stem diameter. Deposition is modelled through a particle fall number, which takes account of particle settling velocity, flow velocity, flow depth and slope length. The detachment, transport and deposition of soil particles are simulated separately for clay, silt and sand. Average linear sensitivity analysis shows that the revised model behaves rationally. For bare soil conditions soil loss predictions are most sensitive to changes in rainfall and soil parameters, but with a vegetation cover plant parameters become more important than soil parameters. Tests with the model using field measurements under a range of slope, soil and crop covers from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, UK, give good predictions of mean annual soil loss. Regression analysis of predicted against observed values yields an intercept value close to zero and a line slope close to 1\u00b70, with a coefficient of efficiency of 0\u00b781 over a range of values from zero to 38\u00b76 t ha\u22121. In this paper, an overview of the DSSAT is given along with rationale for its design and its main limitations. Concepts for using the DSSAT in spatial decision support systems (for site-specific farming, farm planning, and regional policy) are presented. DSSAT provides a framework for scientific cooperation through research to enhance its capabilities and apply it to research questions.
